Cindy was born in Anaheim, California and remembers her playhorse Star and the "bobbies" (strawberries) in the backyard which she enjoyed picking as a baby. Her neighbor and dear friend Mrs Schermerhorn taught her how the snap-dragon flowers worked and took her on the bus to the dime store for one of each of the things she liked. One copy of each was also purchased for her little sister Kim.

The wild blackberries in the narrow patch where the fence met the garage and which fought their way through old firewood stacks made an impression on her. She often sat with her cats on the couch outside in the garage with all the doors wide open.

She enjoyed spending time quietly holding her rabbits or feeding them and cleaning their cages. The big pine tree where a dove often cooed swayed in the breeze and Dad mowed the dichondra lawn in front or the sprinklers were going.

Cindy began studying reflexology and healing with fasting and raw fruits and vegetables as a teenager. Since then she lived for several years at a raw vegan community, grew organic food, was lead singer and vocalist in the band there. Cindy has continued playing an array of instruments primarily classical marimba and guitar with vocals and does her own percussion and is currently in the jazz improv for marimba course at PSU.

Cindy began a meditation path early in her adulthood, and traveled to India to study under her Master there.

She created, with her first husband, the late Richard Lawnikanis, a large organic garden on their property in Northern California which she planted and harvested by advantageous moon signs.

In her holistic journey, she studied from New York to California and in between, in Boulder, Colorado. She took extensive courses in Biodynamic Craniosacral, Shiatsu, Polarity Therapy and became a holistic practitioner. She coaches group gallbladder flush and colon cleanses online and in Rawprincess Studio which she founded to share natural healing and creative flourishing in her community. Cindy is nationally certified as a bodyworker by NCBTMB. She is a 12-year member of the American Polarity Therapy Association (APTA) and has certificates in craniosacral and Shiatsu. Her Grandpa was Frank Marshburn of Marshburn Bros. Farms--for many years, they were the largest carrot growers in the country. The three brothers started off from Texas with nothing but a truck and beehive in back, and made their way to California. The book "Spiritual Experiences in Business Life" was penned by her grandpa and features the story of how he vowed to not leave the barn one night until God gave him a sign of what to do next. He often spent entire nights praying. As did her late father, Ted Cummins, a minister.

Her Great-Grandpa was the doctor who delivered Richard M. Nixon, the little house in Yorba Linda is down the street from her grandparents home and still houses relatives. There have been many ties to the Whitehouse and the Nixons including a relation by marriage.

I studied reflexology as a teenager and read all I could find about natural foods and alternative healing. After spending years in community using raw living foods, detoxifying fasts and being trained in advanced bodywork, energy yoga and awareness counseling, I studied western and medical massage at East-West College of the Healing Arts in Oregon state and became licensed here as a massage therapist.

As my practice grew in Portland, Oregon, I took the Biodynamic Craniosacral two-year training for certification at Colorado School of Energy Studies in Boulder, Colorado. This has benefited clients with PTSD, old injuries, chronic pain and also those who have symptoms which western medicine cannot address.

Having been a gourmet vegetarian instructor and parent-leader, I enjoy supporting clients who wish to transition to healthy foods, exercise and emotional balance. All my work, whether traditional massage or quantum energy work is with respect to each client's inherent healing wisdom.

Cross-cultural alliances and eliminating racism is important to me.

With my license transferred to Connecticut in September 2008, and my New York licensure almost complete, I was welcomed to Danbury's Body Essentials, Holistic Dayspa and Wellness Center.

I worked at Body Essentials until I needed to return to Portland, Oregon, for co-parenting reasons. I now consider Portland my permanent home, at least until my kids are 26 years old. :-)

Cindy at Massage Envy Eagan, Summer 2009 with Erika McNamara, customer service extraordinaire!

As you read this I'm packing in Mpls, MN, readying for my return to Portland, OR, for the schoolyear. I'll get the little munchkins off to school bright and early each morning, then head for my studio where, yours truly, Rawprincess Touch extraordinaire is wowing clients by the waiting-room load.

I've been working hardy hardy (6 to 8 clients per day) at Massage Envy Eagan, just outside St Paul, MN. Such great staff, clients and fellow therapists, I can't wait to return to work on youse alls again this December and January when I spend the holidays with my Fiance. The really neat thing about Biodynamic Craniosacral is the benefits are cumulative and don't reverse in progress. So we can continue the work began in our first few sessions over the summer.

I remain gainfully employed by Massage Envy Tanasbourne as well (just off 26 at Tanasbourne Town Center in Beaverton) returning September 15. It always amazes me how incredibly important what we eat is. As a healer, I totally have to walk my talk or what I offer my clients is just some watered down fluff and buff. (Uh, warning that link you just passed up is my before-and-after bikini pics!)

Instead, partly just grace but a lot grit, I provide clients with truly deep and transformative bodywork. I workout, do yoga, green smoothies, juice feast, do raw living foods programs (I'm in Penni Shelton's upcoming book Raw Food Cleanse) and meditate. I walk my talk and you can feel it (I'm told) the minute I walk in a room. You will definitely feel it in my hands.

If not, I definitely don't take prisoners.

We will tailor a session that works for you, but I do have my signature approaches. If it's not a good fit between client and practitioner, there's no hurt feelings there. It's about 1 or 2% who do not connect with the benefits of energy-based bodywork and biodynamic craniosacral.

I like it when you bring me your most difficult migraines and nagging injuries, chronic pain and have had many surgeries in the past. But make sure you schedule enough time for your nervous system to shift into a parasympathetic response state. That would be two-hours for these tougher cases, folks. And with long-term conditions you will want a series of at least six craniosacral sessions.

That said, many clients only need a few and it's a tune-up of such velocity that they have resolved some old issues and can resume a normal swedish or deep tissue regime.

Bridge Builder

This poem is inspirational to my field. From the World Massage Festival folks, I also *love* the title "Bodywork Artist." It so describes how I work. Often a client will not receive the same session ever within a two or three year span. Yes, I have some techniques that I consistently use because they're so great, but overall, I listen to the client's system and take cues from intuition and groundedness in the present.

Each of us can choose to leave a bridge for the next traveler.

THE BRIDGE BUILDER

An old man, going a lone highway,
Came at the evening, cold and gray,
To chasm, vast and deep and wide,
Through which was flowing a sullen tide.
The old man crossed in the twilight dim;
The sullen stream had no fears for him;
But he turned when safe on the other side

Baby boomers and young people alike all seem to want to be beautiful and have that glow along with a tight body and flawless skin.

Your First Biodynamic Craniosacral Session

Your first craniosacral appointment you need an extra 30 minutes for intake assessment and settling the nervous system. Bring a list of your self-care routine for review. Plan on being here two hours.

This is a wellness-based focus. Quantum physics has documented that the observer influences the observed. What we choose to focus on does grow stronger. In your session, we will not try to deny or repress physical or emotional pain but acknowledge it while keeping a firm awareness anchored in the parts of your being which are healthy, functioning and feeling well.

Looping is noticing your body and where it feels “good” or “heaviest” and noting that as a resource. Next, we loop over and take a notice at what hurts or is bothering you. That injury or chronic tight spot. Then we loop back and notice once again the warm or pleasant sensation of a place in your body which feels fine. As you notice your bodily sensations by noticing your weight on the table and the sensation of the light sheet over your body, your nervous system has an opportunity to downshift into a parasympathetic response. As the minutes pass and you loop back and forth while relaxing with the practitioner’s treatment, the “painful” sensation often changes and becomes more pleasant. This is due to what we call the “holistic shift”.

Often, looping is only needed at the beginning of the session because the holistic shift creates quite a sensation of wholeness and well-being within the client so there no longer seem to be two places to loop to. Just a sense of being a whole organism connected to everything. *smiles*

Within this slowing down process is where the internal intelligence of your system can begin to repair, reorient to its own health patterns and the tight or painful areas can become more shift-able. Within the more fluid state of relaxation, your craniosacral system begins to operate as it was meant to and in a gentle way, shock, stress and trauma can be discharged. This is a biological, physiological process which oddly enough can simultaneously feel very spiritual. That’s okay too. Just so you know, the healing process is very much a physical, like I said, physiological process. Science has made many advancements in understanding these once mysterious processes.

Just as organic soil is smarter than we are and can grow a better tomato than factory created dirt, your craniosacral system is supremely intelligent and will do whatever it can to restore your system to its DNA embryological intention. All it is, is your own anatomy. Oddly enough, there does seem to be some kind of mystical element within our spines and brains! That’s wonderful!

When eliminating shock and trauma from the tissues and the nervous system, there is no need to re-live the trauma. One doesn’t even have to think about it or even need to actually remember what happened to heal from it. If a memory does come up—that is completely fine too—and, at this point we are already prepared because I know what you do for your self-care and I know how to gently support you to stay in the wellness mode and not get overwhelmed.

Sometimes the person’s system does need to say something or some tears may come. This is completely okay and welcome. More often than not, that doesn’t even come up.

You will be clothed for your craniosacral session but loose comfortable clothing such as one would wear for stretching or lounging is ideal.

I will sit in the room for a few minutes to settle and set what we call "practitioner fulcrums" which create a safe holding space for your system to center within. I will often describe some of all this to you throughout the session. I will ask once or twice how this is for you. At times we will simply be quiet and notice the subtle movements within the field. After the first settling period I often will hold the client's heels. From the heels an entire session could be completed if needed. A lot happens at the heels in the cranial session and as the holistic shift happens, usually a treatment plan or a "what next" comes into focus. Your system will alert me to where to go next either cognitively or subtley. Typically I either move then to the occiput or the sacral hold. If a specific injury site is of concern I often just sit and palpate there and do the whole session at that spot. The cranial rhythms are holographic and can be perceived at any point in the body, often, also just near the body within the person's field. Again, this is biological, isn't really about auras or crystals or angels or any of that. It's just a sort of expansion and contraction--actually documented "breathing" through protoplasm *laughs* (ask me for a copy of the DVD)--that can be perceived with training and practice. Neat, huh? :-)

Not to say you won't feel as though you have angels with you or some kind of universal love or a spiritual or emotional opening, because I don't feel you can really separate those much. I mean, the physical is probably, imho, completely entertwined with the spiritual. As Dr Randolph Stone might have said, "God knows!" It's highly individual. I just focus on what I'm noticing within the scope of my training and it all works out very well. I don't analyze it. You can if you want! :)

At times, I might do a bit of foot massage or polarity therapy on the shoulders if it seems helpful for the client to settle. At the end I might stretch your arms if you suddenly feel the need to stretch. After such deep stillness which we call "Stillpoint" sometimes it does feel very good to stretch. That's fine!

A series of six sessions is highly recommended in the case of chronic pain with a history of surgeries, injuries, car accidents and long-term stressors. If we finish sooner that is great! Most sessions take an average of 90 to 120 minutes. This time allows the nervous system to completely settle and for its treatment plan to emerge and complete for that day.

In a recent study at the Clinical Pathology Department of the National Institute of Health, lack of a balanced spectrum of light contributed to loss of muscle tone and strength. If certain wavelengths are missing in light we receive, the body cannot fully absorb certain nutrients. It makes sense that I went out to lunch with Body Essentials entrepreneur and her mother, then met her grandmother! At lunch, many relatives and roots were discussed fondly.
When I got home, my fiancee took me and his son out to a lavish dinner which is fitting for an equinox their first to celebrate as it is regular with me. Again, family ties, memories and laughs were shared.
Moon in Cancer and in the waning moon. But also the equinox, harvest, celebrating abundance, family importance.
All this and I am grateful for those people throughout my life, who may not be here just now--such as my dad, grandparents on both sides, Joy, her family, my dad's siblings, my own children, mother and sisters. Since the 1980s I have studied Polarity therapy and was introduced to the amazing way the cranial bones actually very subtley move!

Here is an intro I wrote as I began the advanced trainings in Boulder, Colorado. Take it upon yourself to be your own best friend. Having these sessions can change your life, give your system a chance to resolve stuck shock and trauma from childhood injuries, frights, surgeries (which your system perceives as mortal threat) and accidents.

The practitioner, then, based on listening to the client's system at the feet, moves usually to the tailbone area or else the client's head if this is indicated. The practitioner "listens" to the subtle expansion and contraction of the client's craniosacral cycle along with the expression of nervous system discharge.

The client will be comfortable at all times. This is not a deep tissue or a painful type of massage. The practitioner has been trained to palpate the subtle somatic sensations and *invite* the client's system to release nervous system and CS-fluid blocks.

Results are usually quite noticeable within the first session and a series is highly recomended for complete resolution and reorganization. This is a science, with many roots in the old osteopathic practices of Britain.

Additionally, the biodynamic or fluid-model, differs from the Upledger method in that Upledger is considered a more "mechanical" model. This model -- the model I practice -- has retain its mystical roots and is even less invasive than Upledger. I don't push on your head (unless we are just doing alittle massage) but rather sit and listen with my hands and as my awareness and acknowledgement of your nervous system creates safety, I invite your system to make the shifts it needs to make next. This way I never force your system to shift when it's not ready to do so which can be why other craniosacral therapies sometimes create worse issues.

The practitioner needs to invite the client's system to shift--as William Garner Sutherland, the osteopath noted--with an aware practitioner, the client has a rare opportunity to make internal changes it could not otherwise make. He spent five years never doing a single adjustment, just holding his patient's head and paying attention.

He noticed that "clunk" a very subtle dropping would occur and the clients system would offload excess charge and shift within his soft hand-hold.

Today Gina and I, (Gina is the owner of Body Essentials) each took an end of an old flower planter which had seen better days and lugged it away from the front of her wellness center! Laughing and recruiting new clients as we walked it to the back to a large wood pile, I knew, symbolically (and indeed with the visionary Aquarian moon increasing) it was letting go of old energy and creating space for the fresh, new and immediate.
